Access to food, housing, healthcare and financial stability can impact a student’s success. To better understand these challenges that students across the 10 campuses of the University of Hawaiʻi face daily, UH has . The survey is anonymous and confidential and open from February 3 through March 10. The data gathered will be used to improve student support programs.
The Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs is responsible for the survey and is asking faculty and staff to help get the word out to students.
“Any support you can provide in encouraging student participation is appreciated,” said Farrah-Marie Gomes, associate vice president for student affairs, in an email to UH employees. “The insights gathered will help the University of Hawaiʻi develop and enhance programs that directly address these student basic needs, fostering a more supportive and equitable campus environment.”
Why it matters
Survey responses will also help evaluate the 2024–2027 UH Student Basic Needs Master Plan, which identifies student priorities across UH campuses. Responses will be combined to highlight key areas for improvement.
All UH students have access to , a new online resource designed to help them find essential support, including food, housing and financial assistance. It is free and available Sunday to Thursday from 8 p.m. to midnight, and Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to noon. Students can connect during these hours to get guidance on securing the resources they need.
