happy hour

After a busy day of shopping for Cakewalk during Dallas market week, Jen and I were ready for our “after work happy hour”.  We were reveling in the excitement of being in a different cityscape and responsibility free (a.k.a. kid free) to boot! The terrace at the BarBelmont was calling our names. With great enthusiasm, we head out and ….we are immediately lost.

{This sort of thing is not at all uncommon. This same morning, Jen spilled coffee in her lap on the way to market while performing driving maneuvers to get ‘unlost’. Unfortunately for us, she was wearing white jeans and a trip back to the hotel was necessary.}

After many attempts to find our way back on track, I suggest that we just swing into the first cool place we see. “That looks nice” Jen exclaims as we squeal into the valet line of the Meddlesome Moth.

While waiting for the valet, we marveled on the coolness of this spot and the couple got out of the car in front of us.

Hipsters. So adorable.

We followed the clientele going into the happening bar we found.

Modern luxury, local flavor, and mid century-swank? Uhmmm… yes, please. Love, love this place. We needed to go to Dallas Market last weekend and being that we are both fond of the hotel/motel sort of thing (this one is another good one), The Belmont Hotel is where we chose to stay and I’m so glad we did!

The Belmont Motor Hotel was built in 1946 and designed by famed architect, Charles Stevens Dilbeck. Dilbeck took his inspiration from similar motor court hotels that had been successful in California, accenting a series of Moderne structures with Colonial-style details. The hotel is an interesting example of Art Moderne design – with emphasis on horizontal lines, rounded corners and stucco facades. Roughly 8,000 cubic yards of earth and rock were moved to sculpt the cliff site to allow guests unobstructed views of the Dallas skyline. It was also was one of the first hotels to offer year round air-conditioning. Reopened in 2005, the restored 68-room Belmont Hotel sits high on a bluff in the North Oak Cliff district and boasts four bungalow-style buildings, urban gardens, heated pool and the spectacular views of the skyline.

Watching the sunset from the terrace at BarBelmont, protein loading at Smoke and a nightcap at the pool overlooking the city provided for the perfect enjoyment before a very busy day perusing the holiday collections. I can’t wait for the next Market…
